Past the floor, brands converge and the real differentiators appear: customization, lead time, and freight. A manufacturer can cut uprights for a 96 inch ceiling or stretch a rig down a 60 foot wall. An importer sells whatever is in the container. A mid-tier machine with a full parts catalog outlives a premium machine that needs a technician flown in.
Category 3: Cardio and Electronics
The one category where brand consolidation is earned. Rowers are the proof: one brand dominates every CrossFit box on the continent because its parts diagrams are public, every component ships within days, and a facility manager can rebuild a unit on a bench with a hex key. Made-to-order domestic steel carries a lead time, ours runs 8 to 10 weeks, but it arrives cut to your building, and the shop that welded it is a phone call away, not a customs form. Institutional buyers, universities, fire departments, municipal facilities, increasingly weight domestic supply for exactly this reason: total cost of ownership lives in years two through ten, not in the purchase order.
So Which Brands Actually Work?
The pattern, not the ranking. For cardio, buy the brand your local boxes have already run for a decade; their survival under abuse is the only published data set.
